IP65 minimum for covered areas, IP67 for exposed decks, IP68 for potential submersion. Higher ratings improve longevity.

Use hooded fittings, frosted lenses, or asymmetric optics. Position to avoid reflection off wet decks into helm.

Only certified navigation lights meet COLREG. Deck lights supplement but cannot replace required navigation lighting.
